2nd Place in Saul Bell Design Award

Maja Houtman won the second prize in the category ‘Silver’ of the Saul Bell Design Award for Recognizing Distinction in Jewelry Design presented by Rio Grande with a bracelet called Suftal Fidda. The bracelet consists of more than 300 silver ribs with a diameter of 0.5 mm, which are held together by one 0.2 mm thick wire. Not only does this thread hold the ribs together, but also thousands of pieces of chain that hang from it.
The bracelet was on show during the 34th Santa Fe Symposium and the JCK Las Vegas.

Saul Bell Design Award
The Saul Bell Design Award is a prestigious design competition, where master gold and silversmiths compete with each other in various disciplines at an international level. The contest is named after Saul Bell, the founder of Rio Grande in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With his company, Bell wanted to support jewelers and craftsmen and offer them opportunities to develop their skills. The annual design competition named after him pays homage to Saul Bell and his life’s work.
Today, Rio Grande is one of the world’s largest suppliers to the jewelry industry and is part of the Richline Group, a Berkshire Hathaway Company.
